Isn't it about time I did Sci-fi? As much as I enjoy the genre, I rarely gave it any art love. After seeing Prometheus I felt compelled to screen cap one frame of every shot. Here's what I have so far:

Jonathan Duncan: ORIGINS
I owe a good bit to videogames. Ever since I was in Middle School anyone that knew me could attest to the fact that I was always drawing videogame characters from copies of Electronic Gaming Monthly or taking videogame guides into English class for mandatory reading time. It started out as an obsession, but after I matured (maybe) I came to appreciate games rather than have an unhealthy obsession with them.
Metroid was one of my favourite franchises. It was by unlocking concept art in Metroid Prime that I knew I wanted to do concept art in videogames for a living, and Samus Aran is by far the character I've drawn more than any other. After a mother of an old friend found a rendition of Samus painted on her basement wall from around eight years ago, I decided to give it another go, for old time's sake:
There's something endearing I've lost with the newer version.
Maybe it's the broken arm or the glam-rock boots.

EVG Music
Commission for a friend's site. I told him I'd only work for him on the condition that he's good at what he does, so check out his music!

Fan Art
I often think about artists that inspire me. I have tons of little doodles of their characters. Today, instead of doing homework, I paid tribute to one of many good sketches from Ayato.

Fishbot Animation

I try to keep a record of progress on my digital sketches. I remembered to do so on the latter of the SIGGRAPH sketches from the last post. Enjoy!

Drawing the old Space Police outfit on Charlie before going with the new design.
Afraid I'm still a sucker for vests!

Older Digital Sketches
Mostly small homework assignments and a few extras that embarrassed me too much to show.
Hopefully the thumbnails are forgiving, but I have a higher-res version if you wish.
(Looks like Blogger doesn't fancy a 1.7MB image)

Colour Balance
This started out as an Andrew Jones-esque exercise in abstract symmetry, but then I ran with it in a different direction. (I think my favourite scheme is second from left.)

PC Illustration Scene
Finally done with this semester. I'm glad it's over. I've never been pushed so hard in my life, and I feel like I didn't give it 100%. I hope to take what I've been given and utilize it to the fullest this summer.
I'm also trying to land some money, somehow. I have no source of income at the moment. Until then, lots of drawing!

Ferris and Charlie are fighting these huge beetle things… I guess. Enjoy the ten-minute colour job!

PC Illustration Concepts
Fleshing out the story for these characters will be a lot of fun. I'll try and keep you posted with more updates. If you're reading this, please know that I appreciate your time.
Ferris and Charlie work as partners for a generic police-in-space outfit.

Sketch Trades
My roommate and I took a stab at each other's characters. I'll link you to his original version of Jet-Pack-Guy here, if he ever gets around to scanning it.

Art Faggotry
It happens sometimes. I promise I'll get around to updating after this semester turns its ugly head away from me. For now I'm completely bogged down with crap. Here's a sketch for you, fresh from Colour Theory.

I've been using Photoshop almost exclusively for this class. It's been a great exercise in speed and design, although my concepting is still horrendous. :P

A Start
Here's stuff I've uploaded elsewhere. It's not much, but it'll give you an idea of what to expect.
These images will follow the development of my current concept: designing an Ego, Superego, and Id in a world that ultimately serves as reference to my thoughts on God, myself, etc….

A rendition of the Superego in black oil paint

Concepts for the Ego.
I knew I wanted a gargoyle, since it's a sort of mockery of life through an inanimate object.
The goat face was added later to nudge the character into a less-than human air, a compromise that instead brings potential for comic elements and practice on drawing an unfamiliar subject.

The two meet for the first time
The Superego interacts in American Sign Language (always portrayed by a dotted word bubble.)
